Object-Oriented Coldfusion – Learning the techniques

I must admit working in an environment where you are the only application programmer can be less then satisfying as there is limited ability to interact with fellow developers. I find the biggest downfall is the single vision of techniques and solutions. This unfortunate scenario leads to a lot of online reading of articles from leading developers and programming enthusiasts.

I recently (past few months) have stumbled onto limited articles regarding object-oriented programming with Coldfusion via components, but must admit the little bit of exposure and testing I have done thus far is quite impressive. The thing I like most about the use of objects is the ability to truly separate my current coding structures, working in an office where all the legacy code is very procedural, this separation method is quite pleasing.

I now separate all my code into three groups, structure (xhtml), presentation (Jquery + CSS), and business logic (server-side processing and use of objects). This has been very successful thus far and the more I use it the more I am loving the OO techniques.

I plan to post more in depth articles regarding my learning experience with Coldfusion OO and the positives and negatives that follow.

Be sure to check back over the next few days for Part 1 of My Coldfusion Object-Oriented Experience.
